Volunteering
Here at LD:NorthEast we are incredibly grateful for the support we receive. Our volunteers have various skills and experience and they make a real difference in supporting our work.
We run a lot of different social activities throughout the week so we’re always looking for someone with a talent that they’d like to share! Perhaps you’re a musician, an artist or a really keen gardener? If so and you can spare a couple of hours every week then we’d love to hear from you.
We also believe volunteering should be enjoyable and rewarding. That’s why we invest time and resources into supporting our volunteers, helping them grow in confidence, learn new skills, and feel part of something positive.
We proudly offer supported volunteering roles for people with a learning disability and/or autism. These roles are meaningful and tailored to each person’s interests and abilities.
Examples include our volunteer receptionist roles, where volunteers welcome visitors, answer calls and support basic admin. These opportunities help people build skills, grow in confidence and feel valued as part of the team.

Izzy’s story
Izzy first got in touch with us in November 2023, expressing an interest in volunteering within our arts and crafts sessions. From her very first session on 8th January 2024, it was clear she had found her place. Izzy took to the role naturally, embracing every opportunity with enthusiasm and dedication. Her positive energy and creativity made a real difference, helping the people we support to fully engage and get the most out of each session.
Her impact hasn’t gone unnoticed and our activity workers, who works closely alongside Izzy, shared
“Izzy is such a reliable and engaging volunteer. She has the ability to see where there is a need and can support the clients while still letting them produce their own work. Izzy gives everyone the best opportunities to bring out their own skills and improve on them.”
The people who we support couldn’t speak highly enough of her and when asked about Izzy, they described her as someone who truly makes a difference:
“Izzy is really friendly.”
“I know Izzy will help anyone out.”
“She has made it more enjoyable for me.”
“Izzy cares about me and the group.”
By October 2025, when LD:NorthEast had outreach vacancies available, Izzy’s name stood out immediately. We had heard nothing but glowing feedback about her commitment, kindness, and ability to connect with others and all this was backed up from the feedback from everyone, and we knew she would be a perfect fit for the role.
Izzy officially joined LD:NorthEast in November 2025, and her journey from volunteer to valued team member is a wonderful example of how dedication, compassion, and a genuine desire to help others can make a lasting impact.
